The goal of this course is to help empower you and your child to learn practical, easy to apply, tested skills that through research have shown to improve wellbeing. This course will be tapping into tested positive education techniques as well as a range of mindfulness application strategies with videos, audio links, weekly challenges, resources, and a detailed manual for your reference.  It will also focus on specific skills that assist students to strengthen relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage a healthy lifestyle. The course is geared primarily for children ages 6-12, but many activities can be adapted for parents and teachers as well.

You may have heard of the powerful and timeless quote “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all” by Aristotle. As an educator, this has been my mantra. There has never been a time where educating the heart has been more critical. Mental and emotional wellbeing are being challenged now more than ever. Human connections are challenged, emotions are suppressed, and young minds are feeling the burden.

When parents are asked what they want most for their child when going to school, the overwhelming majority want them to be happy. After all, isn’t that what we ALL want? To live a life of purpose, of joy, of love. However, when you ask many teachers what is taught in school, rarely do they answer wellbeing. How much focus is actually placed on teaching tools to embed “happiness?” What about creativity and problem solving skills, all of which are directly linked to application of mindfulness and positive education strategies? Are kids just expected to know how to manage their emotions and wellbeing innately? If it were that simple, there wouldn’t be record amounts of cases internationally of depression, anxiety, and stress. Children quite simply lack strategies to take ownership of their own mental health and are limited in opportunities to enhances their emotional intelligence and wellbeing.

The youth are our future. Imagine how different our world would be if we could prioritize teaching applicable and valuable skills that improve well being from a young age, which can then be transferable for life!

Week 1: The Power of Kindness

This section examines the affects of practicing kindness on our wellbeing, while providing research and ideas on how to implement maintainable kindness challenges.

Week 1: What's in a Smile?

Discover the contagious power of a smile, and how it can immediately boost your wellbeing, effortlessly.

Week 2: Movement Magic

Movement can be magic to the heart and mind. It reignites stagnant energy in your body and is guaranteed to help shift your mood, and improve wellbeing.  Learn ways to challenge your habits and use movement to improve your wellbeing!

Week 2: Power of Sleep

Learn how something as basic as proper sleep has instrumental affects on your wellbeing, and how we can make healthy habits to improve our sleep patterns.

Week 3: Savoring the moment

Savoring is the act of stepping outside of an experience to review and appreciate it. It is the epitome of being mindful and present in the moment.  You will practice how to savor the moments more mindfully.

Week 3: Character Strengths

In this section you learn about character strengths which are at the heart of positive education.  They are the positive human qualities that serve as pathways towards living an enriching life. You will complete a survey to find your own special character strengths and see how you can use them to enhance your wellbeing.

Week 4: Attitude of Gratitude

Students will learn why having an attitude of gratitude is one of the strongest indicators contributing to a positive wellbeing and learn practical ways to embed into daily life.  Also available are downloadable activity guide with various ideas on implementing gratitude.

Week 4: Finding Purpose and Meaning

Students will practice setting daily intentions to help focus the mind on accomplishing tasks, and enhancing wellbeing.

Week 4: Making Connections

Students will learn how investing in relationships and making meaningful connections improves levels of happiness.

Mindfulness Application

Mindfulness of Breath with Audio links

Students will learn the power of the breath, and how it can help to control our monkey mind!  Mindful meditation audio links will be provided for daily practice. 

Mindfulness through Sensory Activation

This section has a range of activities with audio links to mindfully activate our senses. Students can choose strategies that best cater to their multiple intelligences, and practice a variety of the choices provided.
