What We Will Learn?

1
What we will learn?

We talked about the topics we will see in our course.

Introduction

1
What is database?

Data is any sort of information which is stored in computer memory. This information can later be used for a website, an application or any other client to store for future purpose.

2
RDBMS (Relational Database Management System)

DBMS is a collection of programs which enables its users to access database, manipulate data and help in representation of data. It also helps control access to the database by various users.

3
What is SQL/Query?

SQL or SEQUEL is Structured Query Language, which is a computer language for storing, manipulating and retrieving data stored in relational database.

Database Normalization

1
Normalization

First normal form (1NF) sets the very basic rules for an organized database.

2
Normal Forms (NF)

First normal form (1NF) sets the very basic rules for an organized database.

Installation

1
Install MS SQL Server Express Edition 2017

In this part we will learn how to install and setup the requirement tools. We need two requirements to work with SQL Server.

Starting to SSMS

1
Starting To SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio)

In this part we learn how to connect MS SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and we will learn about interface of the SSMS such as Object Explorer.

2
Create, Alter and Drop Database

In this part we will learn how to create a database, alter and delete database with graphically in SSMS and using SQL query

3
Create, Rename and Drop Table

In this part we will learn how to create a table in a database alter and delete the table with graphically in SSMS and using SQL query

4
Data Types and Constraints

SQL data type is an attribute that specifies type of data of any object. Each column, variable and expression has related data type in SQL.

5
Foreign Key Constraint

A foreign key is a key used to link two tables together. This is sometimes called as a referencing key.

6
Unique & Check Constraint

The UNIQUE Constraint prevents two records from having identical values in a particular column. In the tableEmployees table, for example, you might want to prevent inserting multiple phone number.

7
Quiz

Manipulating Data

1
Insert Data to Table

In this part we will learn how to insert data to a table in two different ways; graphically with SSMS and using SQL query

2
Update Data in A Table

In this part we will learn how to update data in a table in two different ways; graphically with SSMS and using SQL query

3
Delete Data and AdventureWorks

AdventureWorks database is a sample database provided by Microsoft that comes with SQL Server. We will learn how to instal and setup AdventureWorks database on our SQL Server.

Basic Select Statement

1
Select Statement and Alias

In SQL, Select statements are used to retrieve data from tables in database. These kinds of queries begin with the word ‘SELECT’

2
Where Clause and Operators

Retrieving the all data from a table may cause speed problems. OR Sometimes, we may need to get specific rows from a table. In this case we will need to use Where clause

3
Quiz

Sorting and Grouping Data

1
Sorting and Grouping Data

There may be a situation when you have multiple duplicate records in a table. While fetching such records, it makes more sense to fetch only unique records instead of fetching duplicate records.

2
Quiz

Wildcard Operations

1
Like Clause

The LIKE operator is used in the Where clause of the Select, Update, and Delete statements to filter rows based on pattern matching.

IF-THEN Statement

1
Case Function

We can use case clause in any clause that accepts an expression such as Select, Where, Group By, and Having.

Conversion Functions

1
Convert and Cast Function

The Convert function returns the value of expression translated to the target type with a specified style. The convert function has three parameters; dataType, Expression and Style.

Retrieve Data From Multiple Tables

1
Inner Join

The most frequently used and important of the joins is the INNER JOIN which creates a new result table by combining column values of two tables

2
Left and Right Join

The left join or left outer join will return all the records from the left table in the join clause, regardless of matching records in the right table. The right join or right outer join will return all the records from the right table in the join clause, regardless of matching records in the left table.

3
Full and Self Join

The full or full outer join join keyword will return all matching records from both tables whether the other table matches or not. A Self Join is a regular join but there are differences between self join and inner join.

Set Operations

1
Union Operators

The set operators are mainly used to combine the same type of data from two or more tables. Union Operator combines two or more result sets into a single set, without duplicates. On the other hand the Union All operator combines two or more result sets into a single set, including all duplicates.

2
Intersect and Except Operators

The SQL Intersect operator is used to combine two Select statements, but returns rows only from the first Select statement that are identical to a row in the second Select statement. However, Except operator is used to combine two Select statements and returns rows from the first Select statement that are not returned by the second Select statement.

Subqueries

1
Subqueries With Select Statement

A subquery is used to return data that will be used in the main query as a condition to further restrict the data to be retrieved.

2
Single Row & Multiple Row Subqueries

A single-row subquery is used when the outer query's results are based on a single, unknown value. On the other hand The multiple row subquery returns one or more rows to the outer SQL statement. The IN, ANY, or ALL operators can be used in outer query to handle a subquery that returns multiple rows.

3
Insert, Update and Delete Statement

Subqueries can be used in inserting statements, updating statements and deleting statements. The INSERT statement uses the data returned from the subquery to insert into another table. Either single or multiple columns in a table can be updated when using a subquery with the Update statement.

DateTime Functions

1
DateTime Function

The GetDate function will return the current system date and time of the operating system on which the SQL Server is running. The other datetime functions are in this lesson.

2
Converting DateTime

We might need to format a date in different formats as per our requirements. We can use the SQL Convert function in SQL Server to format DateTime in various formats.

String Functions

1
String Functions

You will also learn about SQL String functions such as Len, Trim, Substring, Replace functions and more in this lesson.

Math Functions

1
Math Functions

Another important functions of SQL Server is the Math Functions. In this part we will learn the Math functions.

SQL Transactions

1
SQL Transactions

In this part we will learn about SQL transaction. To manage transactions we will use three commands.

2
SQL Transactions Commands

In this part we will learn three command of SQL transactions; Commit Command, RollBack Command and SavePoint Command

Schema Objects and Managing Schema

1
Create Schema and View

Schema makes works simple. In general, We may need to give permissions to tables and we set privileges one by one. This will make management difficult.

2
Create Sequence

A sequence is a user-defined object and as its name suggests it generates a sequence of numeric values according to the properties with which it is created.

User Management

1
Create Logins

A Login is an identity used to connect to SQL Server instance. The CREATE LOGIN statement creates an identity used to connect to a SQL Server instance

2
Users & User Permissions

A user is a database level security principal. Logins must be mapped to a database user to connect to a database.

3
Permissions & Roles

We will learn commands for user permissions; Grant, Deny and Revoke. We will also learn roles which is created to ease setup and maintenance of the security model
